Run of the Charles: Boston’s Premier Paddling Race
Sunday, April 28, 2019
Kick off the paddling season on April 28, 2019 with the 37th Run of the Charles. As Charles River Watershed Associations signature event, the Run of the Charles is the largest flat-bottomed boat race in New England and a major event in Greater Boston, where it draws an average of 1,400 racers and thousands more spectators each year!
New for 2019! The distance of our traditional 24-mile relay has been reduced to 14 miles, and in addition to the usual 10-person canoe teams, is now open to 5-member teams of single kayaks and paddleboarders. We have also added a short 3-mile race for beginning paddlers.
Races starts in Weston and Brighton and all races finish at DCR’s Artesani Park on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton where race fans and families gather at our expanded Finish Line RiverFest celebration to enjoy a day of music, refreshments, exhibits, raffles, picnics and awards.
Canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddling enthusiasts from throughout the US and Canada compete in a variety of races, including:
