Ironstone Derby, Run for the Roses - Stay for the Party!
Saturday, May 2, 2015
Thoroughbred horses won't be the only ones running on the day of the Kentucky Derby!
Join us for this 5-kilometer event that starts and finishes inside LeLacheur Park, the home of the Lowell Spinners in Lowell, Mass. Race day is Saturday, May 2 and the race motto is "Run for the Roses - Stay for the Party!" This festive event includes a certified 5K course, shirts for the first 500 registered, kids activities such as a stick-horse race, the option for a post-race all-you-can-eat barbecue, and everyone can stay and watch the Kentucky Derby live on the Jumbotron after the race!
Entry fees for the 5K are $35 for adults and $25 for youth 12 and younger, and $10 for the kids stick-horse run. Online registration will end Friday, May 1 at 11:00am. There will be race-day registration at LeLacheur Park starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Team registration is encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for the largest team, the fastest team, and the team that is most creatively dressed for the Ironstone Derby.
Want to create a team? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to add your team to the registration page (as this ensures accurate team information). Once a team is created, it appears in the drop-down menu after the question "Want to register as part of a team?"
Kids should bring their own stickhorse, such as by making one ahead of time at a special event. There will be a limited number of stickhorses to borrow or to buy on race day.
